De populaire jeugdserie Bassie en Adriaan werd voor de opnamen van Het geheim van de sleutel (1978) en De diamant (1979) gesponsord door Chrysler-Simca Nederland, in de vorm van een Matra-Simca Rancho. De seizoenen daarna werd de auto vervangen door een Honda Prelude, desondanks heette de Rancho sindsdien de 'Bassie en Adriaanauto'.

In the first few seasons of their show, Bassie & Adriaan usually drove a Matra Rancho. This is what you'd now call a crossover vehicle: a vehicle that looks as though it could go off road but with the underpinnings of a normal road car. The yellow stickers were a complete pain to make and apply, but are pretty important for the look of the particular car used in the TV series.

De Rancho is gebouwd op basis van de Simca 1100 Fourgonette pick-up, met een met kunststof aangepaste carrosserie. In feite is de Rancho een voorloper van de latere SUV modellen, want hoewel de auto er als een stoere.
